Today we’re going to talk about how to get your kids excited about a household move. Of course they are going to have friends in the neighborhood and special memories in your home that are going to make them not want to leave. However, getting them involved early on in the process, and getting their input to see what they’d like in a new home is a great start. This can go a long way in getting them excited about the move.

The next thing you should do is ask them to help design their bedroom. Give them choices for paint colors, carpets, or decorations.

When you’re driving around the new neighborhood, spend some time showing your kids any amenities that might interest them in the surrounding area, which should also help in increasing their motivation to move.  Along the same lines, show them their new school if they are switching schools.

One thing we do here is actually have your kids sign the same listing agreement you do. It’s not the exact same, but it says that they will agree to keep their room picked up, keep things neat, and be on their best behavior. The incentive? We will give them a $20 gift card of their choice as a reward for doing a great job!

These are just a few tips to help get your kids excited about a move to their new home. If you have any questions for us, or are looking to buy or sell yourself, give us a call or send us an email. We’d love to hear from you!
